Editorial Policy
Last updated: November 6, 2026
This page explains how I plan, write, check, and update content on PayHour. I publish it so you can judge how much to trust what you read here.
Who writes and reviews the content
I write and edit every page on PayHour. I am an independent publisher, not a payroll specialist, accountant, or lawyer, and I do not claim those credentials. When a topic needs professional judgment, I say so and point you to an official source.
How I use AI tools
I use AI writing tools to help draft and polish some text. I never publish a draft as it comes. I check each fact against a source, run each example through the calculator, and edit the wording by hand. I am responsible for everything on the site.
How I research
I start with primary sources and skip blogs and summaries when an official page exists. My main references are:
- The U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division for overtime, breaks, and minimum wage.
- The IRS for tax withholding.
- Government sites in Canada, the UK, and Australia for rules outside the US.
When sources disagree, I follow the government source. For rules outside the US, I stick to broad facts and tell you to check your local rules.
How I check numbers
Every figure comes from a calculation I can show. I redo each table and worked example whenever I edit it. Before a release, I test the calculator against hand-worked cases. Those include a standard week, an overnight shift, an overtime week, and invalid entries.
Facts versus opinion
Facts carry a number or a source. Advice that rests on my judgment, such as which settings suit a certain schedule, is marked as my view.
Updates and reviews
Each page shows its last update date. I review every page at least once a year, and I review sooner when overtime, minimum wage, or tax rules change. I change the date only when the content changes in a way that matters to readers.
Corrections
When I find a mistake, I fix it and update the date. For a major error, I add a short note at the top of the page that says what changed. If you spot an error, send me the page link and your source through the contact page.
Independence and advertising
PayHour has no ads, sponsors, or affiliate links today. If that changes, I will label paid content clearly. Money will never change a calculator result or a recommendation.
What I do not publish
- Fake reviews, ratings, or testimonials.
- Invented credentials, quotes, or statistics.
- Tax, legal, or financial advice.
- Text copied from other websites.
